New Music Friday (Feb 24)

Dang the list this week is fire.  All new track from Chainsmokers, Zedd, and Calvin Harris, the EDM here is on point.  After a quick week due to the long weekend what we need to get through next week are the tracks here.  Plus with Feb coming to an end this coming week, its time to pack away the layers and winter gear and start to substitute it for hunter rain boots, and a cute colourful in coat, cause spring is on the way!  And many of the tracks here are reminiscent of that!  So revel in the warmer weather folks and all new tunes!

Something Just Like This – The Chainsmokers & Coldplay

Really wasn’t expecting this collab here, but its got quite the nice touch.  Its classic new Coldplay and nice familiar Chainsmokers.  Together it makes for a really good song.  Very chill and relaxed but got a great snazzy drop.  Chris Martin brings his light hearted touch to the track and mixed with the high energy of the Chainsmokers it makes for really cool album addition.  I love that these guys just drop song after song, instead of just one or two and then a album of songs that go unheard.  This way we get to hear tune after tune.  And most of the time they all deserve to be singles, so works out just great!

Stay – Zedd & Alessia Cara

This tune is growing on me.  For sure wasn’t my fav when I first listened to it, but now I am staring to love it more and more.  Im a big fan of Alessia Cara, and anytime someone joins forces with Zedd its usually a good call.  So naturally this one is no different.  The smooth lyrics from Cara and killer beats from Zedd make for an awesome duet.  Her line ‘Living on my sofa, drinking rum and cola’ is just so nice, like it just sounds so nice….she just needs to change it to gin & tonic 😉

Still Feel Like Your Man – John Mayer

Johns new album is just a little ways away!  And in preparation he has just released wave two.  The track above is the most popular of the new bunch and I am really digging it.  I love that John doesn’t try to be anything other than himself.  He writes and produces music for himself, and its gorgeous.  His lyrics and guitar playing are so synthetic with each other and I love it.  He doesn’t need to try and be some fabulous pop star, because his simple music holds its own.  Cant wait to hear wave 3 Johnny Boy.

Slide – Calvin Harris ft. Frank Ocean & Migos

I love Calvin Harris (but I think sometimes I get distracted by what he looks like, but can you blame me), but I’m not necessarily a fan of Frank or Migos.  While I only have the preview above that only features Ocean, its quite nice.  The full version of the track is relatively tame and verses from the boys stay equally as easy going.  The back beats from Harris are for sure the highlight here.  It almost seems extra for this tune, but its so perfect.  The second half of the song with Migos is actually way more fly than that of Franks.  Just saying.  Its a very cool track, but not a club banger that were used to from Calvin.

Swalla – Jason Derulo ft. Nicki Minaj & Ty Dolla $ign

THIS MY JAM!  This song is hotter than the current heat wave in Australia.  Like I put this on in my car on the way to work and DAMN!  Im feeling it.  Almost just as much as Ari’s ‘Everyday’, but not quite.  But this 3-way with Jason, Ty, and Nicki is flawless.  It cool, sexy, and different and I hope that people hop on this track real quick.  My only criticism for the song is Derulo’s bit in the chorus when he says ‘freaky, freaky girl’.  Don’t think its really needed and seems to be a weird touch.  But the rest is gold and a damn good bop.

Im A Lady – Meghan Trainor

All new Meghan!  Bu sadly, not from her recent album, which did not get nearly enough recognition.  But I blame her team, for the lack of marketing, and from their poor choices regarding which songs to be lead singles.  But she is back on another kids movie soundtrack.  Much like her tune ‘Better When Im Dancing’ for the peanuts movie, the above song is featured in the new Smurfs movie in which she stars along Demi Lovato!  The track is fun and very disney as its needed to be.  Its very fitting for the movie, but I don’t think it will be a chart topper.  But at least its better than Britney Spears attempt a few years ago.

Selfish – Future ft. Rihanna

This guy just dropped 2 full albums in 2 weeks, and rumour is that there may be a third on its way. But lucky for us, this gem was dropped along with it.  Rihanna can do no wrong.  And Future is only getting bigger and better.  Im not sure if this is acting as the new single, but I hope so.  Its not a massive tune, but def a very cool track and Rihanna gives off all the vibes.  A video for this will hopefully come soon and feature Riri herself. Cause lets be real, she is the only reason Im listening to this song.

Something I’m Good At – Brett Eldredge

A nice country edition to the post.  A little upbeat mix which brings classic summer vibes right before spring hits.  Its a nice change for Brett, but I don’t love it.  It sounds very much like Barenaked Ladies almost, which isn’t a bad thing, just not what I was hoping for.  It seems like he’s trying to many other people at the same time and the track just doesn’t work well for him in my opinion.  But its a fun tune for now and Im sure I’ll know all the words son enough.

Shape of You (Remix) – Ed Sheeran (Major Lazer ft. Nyla & Kranium)

The current No. 1 is getting some new digs.  With remixes from Major Lazer, and Stormzy the already huge hit is getting even bigger.  And with a nice addition from Nyla as well.  While Im a fan of just Ed, this track is so cool.  Huge for the club and dance scene, this will only extend his ruling on the charts.  My friend is the reason that I threw this one up here, cause she can’t get enough of it, and after listening to it a few times, I agree.  Its a jam, even more than it already was.  Remixes can be tricky, but ill hand it to Major Lazer for making this one real good.
